Mt. Morris School District is off to a good start this year by actually saving some money in their budget. Last spring they offered a buyout with 13 teachers accepting the deal, according to The Flint Journal. Superintendent Tricia Hill is glad they could offer the buyout in the spring:

'"What that allowed us to do was prevent layoffs. I think it was (the best option for the district). It allowed us to keep teachers that we would have laid off.'"

They were also able to hire five teachers and some money saved from the buyout has allowed the district to restructure and improve some of the schools. Hill also said they are off to a good year and says everyone has a positive outlook with the changes taking place.
