A beloved Michigan toy store is closing the doors on one of its locations after a 10-year run in Royal Oak.

Toyology Toys, located at 119 S Main St. in Royal Oak, will close at the end of this month, according to Crain's Detroit Business. Toyology's other locations in Bloomfield Hills and West Bloomfield plan to stay open.

What is Toyology?

Toyology is a locally-owned toy store founded by Nori, Aric, and Jonathan Klar in 2011. According to their website, brothers Aric and Jonathan talked their mother Nori into selling trendy toys in her drugstore when they were pre-teens.

Today, Toyology specializes in products that are innovative, fun, and educational. The brand's mission statement notes that play is important for all of us, regardless of our age.

"At the heart of Toyology is the belief that play is powerful. It excites us, teaches us, and builds our growth, no matter how old we are."

Toyology opened its first store in 2011 and later added three additional locations. A Howell location was shuttered in 2018.

Royal Oak Store Says Goodbye

According to Crain's, owner Nori sent a note to customers informing them of the closing.

“With heavy hearts, I am sad to announce that we will not be renewing our lease at our Royal Oak location,” Nori Klar said in the note. “We are proud to have served the Royal Oak community for the last decade, and we will miss all the amazing people and local business (owners) we got to know over the years.”

Recent changes to Royal Oak's public parking are also said to have contributed to the business' demise.
