After 55 Years This Popular Michigan Festival is No More
Michigan is known for several unique festivals, many have been going on for decades and others for much longer. One such festival is calling it quits after more than half a century and spawning other beloved events. But it's not the only one ceasing operations in 2025.
Past Problems At Michigan Country Festival
One festival is calling it quits this year that doesn't have the best safety history. Organizers of the Faster Horses County Music Festival that takes place at Michigan International Speedway announced that the festival will not happen this year. Although nothing major was reported at the 2024 celebration, this festival has not had the best track record since it began in 2013.
Typically taking place in July the three-day event is known for music, camping and booze. The Faster Horses festival has been criticized for many tragedies including sexual assaults, crime and even several deaths. An investigation by Mlive in 2021 revealed reports of 91 assaults, 30 criminal sexual conduct reports and six deaths.
Glass Project Blows Off 2025
Another festival that disappointed vendors and attendees alike by cancelling their 2025 event is the Michigan Glass Project. This three-day festival used to take place at The Russell Industrial Center in Detroit.
The Michigan Glass Project boasted music, art and live demonstrations. While glass is the featured form of art other items were also on display. The 2024 event featured demonstrations in tie-die, glass-blowing even neon glass work. While these two events are not happening in 2025, they may return for 2026.
The Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts Calls it Quits
Starting in 1970, the Festival of the Arts has decided to end it's run after 55 years. This festival attracted spectators and vendors from all over the country.
While there was no specific reason stated as for why the volunteer-driven event was cancelled but city officials are disappointed.
