Local officials are still on the scene working to clean up a hazardous waste spill in Michigan.

What Hazardous Material Was Spilled In Michigan?

According to official reports a semi-truck lost it's load and inadvertently spilled around 300 gallons of a corrosive acid.

The incident happened around 5:00 P.M. yesterday (Monday, May 19th, 2025), and that's when firefighters and hazmat officials were called to the scene.

Where Did The Corrosive Acid Spill Happen?

The corrosive acid spill happened in the city of Livonia, Michigan. As of 10:00 A.M. this morning clean up crews were still on the scene at Middlebelt near Eight Mile Road.

According to reports the truck was traveling south before losing a portion of it's load just after crossing Eight Mile.

What Is The Response Effort Concerning Livonia's Acid Spill?

In addition to the Western Wayne Hazardous Materials Response Team, firefighters were sent from Farmington Hills along with hazmat crews and firefighters from other local agencies in the surrounding area.

The well-trained techs from the hazmat teams entered the semi-truck, donned in their hazmat suits, to manually stop the leak.

Is The Corrosive Acid Dangerous For Locals In The Community?

The acid was determined to be ferric chloride, which is used for treating sewage, industrial waste, water purification and is a component in manufacturing other products.
