Summer has arrived and with the flowers and green grass comes the uninvited guest we can't seem to get away from...the mosquito. It feels like here in Michigan those charming little buggers have earned the rank of "state bird" with their persistent seasonal presence, but is it really that bad? Yes!

One Michigan city has found itself ranked in the top 10 of Orkin's Top 50 Mosquito-Infested Cities in America list. The yearly list serves a purpose with Orkin releasing a ranking of the most mosquito-prone cities and continuing to combat the pest through its partnership with the American Red Cross this summer.

"Mosquitoes aren’t just a nuisance—they’re dangerous. They are the deadliest animal on earth, causing more than 600,000 malaria-related deaths around the world each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Mosquitoes also spread other serious illnesses, including West Nile virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and Zika, all of which are threats to humans and animals", Orkin said.

What Michigan City is Considered One of the Most Mosquito-Infested in America?

According to Orkin's latest rankings, Detroit, the Motor City, has just been named one of the worst for mosquitos in the United States.
