Rat Showdown: Flint & 2 Other Michigan Cities Top Most Rat-Infested List
Trust us, no one is going to be bragging about making this list, and if rats aren't your thing, brace yourself.
Orkin just released its annual list of the Top 50 Most Rat-Infested Cities List and three Michigan cities found themselves on the list of rodent issues, with one making the Top 10.
"Cities on the Rattiest Cities List are based on the number of new rodent services showcasing the demand and also indicates the efforts that residents and businesses of the top cities have taken to treat rodent issues", Orkin said.
The list compiled by Orkin ranked metro regions by the number of new rodent treatments performed from Sept.1, 2022, to Aug. 31, 2023. This ranking includes both residential and commercial pest control treatments. Orkin noted that each fall, mice and other rodents invade an estimated 21 million homes in the United States. They typically enter homes between October and February looking for food, water, and shelter from the cold.
What Michigan Cities Made List of Most Rat-Infested in America?
So how did Michigan cities do when it came to rat problems? Once again this year Flint, Grand Rapids, and Detroit all made the list with the 'D' making the infamous Top Ten. The Michigan rankings looked like this;
#9 Detroit ( up 1 spot from last year)
#25 Grand Rapids ( down 2 spots from last year)
#43 Flint ( this is a big win for Flint falling a full 8 points from last year)
As for the top spot, Chicago is still King of the Rats for 9 years running. Orkin decided to turn lemons into lemonade and celebrate Chicago holding on to the #1 spot. They are releasing a limited-edition t-shirt featuring a Top Rattiest City design made specifically for Chicago, all to commemorate "the dedication of the city as it perseveres in the battle against rodents". Well played Orkin.
