Two Big Michigan Based Pizza Chains Ranked Worst in America
Pizza... it's basically the universal meal. When it comes to Michigan and pizza, we love it so much we have our own take on Detroit-style pizza, so we take it seriously in this neck of the woods. With that, it's no surprise we have our fair share of pizza chains rooted right here in Michigan.
Instead of making the list for the best of the best, two iconic Michigan pizza chains now find themselves in a not-so-favorable light being labeled as the worst pizza joint in the country. It's the team at 24/7 Wall St. that is causing a bit of a ruckus in the pizza world with their list of "5 Pizza Chains to Avoid".

The list no pizza place wants to be on was compiled from consumer reviews and comments according to 24/7 Wall St.
"To answer that question, 24/7 Wall St. consulted pizza reviews on five different food blogs and websites. Because pizza preferences are so subjective, we only included pizza chains that were ranked near the bottom on multiple sites."
Making the list of "5 Pizza Chains to Avoid" was not one, but two Michigan-made pizza companies. First, we need to note neither one landed the top spot. That "honor" went to Chuck E. Cheese being declared the the absolute worst.
Taking the #5 spot was the Michigan-founded and Ann Arbor-based Domino's Pizza. A staple in the state since 1960, here's what landed them on the list;
- Common Criticisms: Lack of consistent quality, Low-quality toppings
"A few years ago, Domino’s launched an advertising campaign that was essentially one massive mea culpa. The company acknowledged the quality of its product in the past was, well, terrible. The ads quoted customers who said the crust was like cardboard and the sauce tasted like ketchup. Then, Domino’s promised to improve the quality of its pies."
Ranked #3 on the list was none other than Michigan's Little Caesars. We were a bit surprised to see the iconic brand on the list, founded in Garden City, Michigan in 1959, by Mike Ilitch and Marian Ilitch.
- Common Criticisms: Low-quality ingredients
"Little Caesars has a long-standing reputation for “HOT-N-READY” pizzas. You walk in, order a pizza, and you immediately walk out with your pie. As far as convenience goes, it is hard to beat. However, if a pizza is ready before you even order it, that should also temper your expectations about its quality. This pizza is about speed and affordability, not exquisite taste".
Truth be told, everyone has THEIR pizza place, and both have some pretty intense longevity in Michigan, so who's to say if the review is really on point? Besides, we all know the real debate is....does pineapple belong on pizza?
