It's an amazing story of love and generosity. Tom Crist just gave away $40 million dollars to honor his wife.

Crist received a call from Western Canada Lottery informing him that he won $40 million dollars. He knew right away that it was going to charity, and he wanted to do it without a lot of media attention.

His wife passed from cancer last February after 33 years of marriage, so he donated all of his winnings in his wife's name to the Canadian Cancer Society and Calgary's Tom Baker Cancer Centre.

He didn't even tell his children. They found out because the lottery rules required he had to have his picture taken. To minimize recognition he took the picture with a baseball cap and sunglasses."I just didn’t know how to deal with it, I was hoping that I could just somehow move it into, you know, from the lotto corporation into my trust account and not have the media."

“I’ve been fortunate enough, through my career, 44 years with a company. I did very well for myself, I’ve done enough that I can look after myself, for my kids, so they can get looked after into the future. I don’t really need that money."
