It was a devastating scene at Jolly Road and South Cedar Street in Lansing yesterday when a team of area firefighters were participating in their annual 'Fill The Boot' campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. While people were lining up to throw change in the iconic boots, they also witnessed what would end up becoming a homicide.

35-year-old Dennis Rodeman was a seven-year veteran of Lansing Fire, who had also served overseas and was expecting a baby with his wife, had an altercation with a man who had come through the intersection. After a heated exchange, the man went through the intersection, made a U-turn, then returned to intentionally hit Rodeman with his truck. Following a police, both on the roads and on foot, the 22-year-old suspect was apprehended. Tragically, the injuries that Rodeman sustained took his life just hours later at a local hospital.

We have more details of this horrific situation in the report from Lansing's WLNS, but this story aired before the unfortunate death of Dennis Rodeman. It's hard to believe that this brave soldier survived one of the most dangerous places in the world while fighting in Iraq, yet it was a coward in Lansing that would not only senselessly end his life, but he did it while Rodeman was trying to do some charity work for a great cause. I just can't wrap my head around it. Rest in peace, Dennis, and Godspeed.
