Mallory Deprekel is a spokesperson for Communities in Schools of Michigan, operating a network of 76 schools and community sites throughout the state according to its website. She tells Lansing TV station WLNS that many districts have CIS site coordinators stationed in school buildings.
“Their job is to do literally anything that the student needs so that teacher can focus on teaching and the student can come to them forever," Deprekel said. "So glasses, basic needs, getting tutoring or mentors in the building. All of that is the site coordinator's job."
Services provided can even include providing necessities like food, assistance with housing, access to technology, and health care.
