Deciding on a name for a baby can be a tough choice for parents. Typically, parents want that name to either be a unique name or a name that somehow honors the family. In Michigan, unique names are not a strong point.

I have to say a couple of things about this. First, I am amazed that my name didn't make the list. Christopher, with all of its various spellings, is an extremely common name. Sometimes I feel that I can't even go a single day without meeting another one of me. Second, Michiganders as a whole seem to be extremely boring when it comes to naming babies. One of the names below was the most popular boy name for 17 years in a row!
Spoiler alert: I am blown away that I don't know more people with the names Jacob and Michael. Looking at this list it seems like you would meet one about every 30 seconds of the day.
When it comes to last names, Smith is the most common last name in Michigan. Taking up the second and third-place spots are Johnson and Williams, respectively.
