A Kalamazoo radio DJ will be taking over his station and broadcasting nonstop in the studio until the radio station raises at least $10,000 for the victims of the tornado in Southwest Michigan.

Over the weekend, southwest Michigan was devastated by multiple tornadoes, which resulted in the death of 4 people and millions of dollars of damage.

This tornado was the deadliest in the state since the EF-3 tornado that hit downtown Kalamazoo in 1980. Edwardsburg, Three Rivers, and Union City were all ravaged with different sized tornadoes, which is why there is such a big need for supplies.

Townsquare Media is using its resources to raise $10,000. In a Facebook post, one DJ revealed how he hopes to help accomplish a big support for the community:

Starting Monday at 6 AM, I will be taking over the airwaves and will not leave until we raise $10,000. ALL funds raised will go directly to St. Joseph and Branch County for the relief funds. We have a trusted link from the counties, so there’s no need to worry about the recipients’ credibility.

This is what the community needs to do when faced with a challenge: find a way to overcome and band together to make a massive impact in our area. Townsquare is dedicated and hopeful to overshoot their $10,000 goal:

These are our listeners and the people who support us who have been affected, so we need to give back to them. That's what radio is all about.

How Tornadoes are Measured: Understanding the F Scale

Since February 1, 2007, America has used the Enhanced Fujita Scale to determine the strength of a tornado with a scale from EF0 to EF5. With some help from the Old Farmer's Almanac, here's a look at what each of the classifications means and the damage they cause.
