It appears that major changes are coming to Saginaw Street in Grand Blanc. This week it was announced that a three-acre development will literally transform an iconic stretch of Saginaw Street.

A developer by the name of Chuck SeKrenes is behind the $23 million project which is  called LaPiazza. It will be designed to bring a blend of residential, retail, and dining spaces to the area, while transferring two local businesses to the new facility.

Although demolishing the current locations of The Crossbow Inn and Ziggy’s Ice Cream is a part of the plan, the businesses will be set up with a new space in the LaPlazza project. But this will mean some down time for the businesses during the transition.

The plans for the future LaPlazza development will include not only new locations for The Crossbow Inn and Ziggy's Ice Cream, but also room for two additional restaurants and three storefronts for retail locations.

While I frequent The Crossbow Inn for lunch at least once a week I was thrilled to learn that they are not going away permanently, but waiting for them to reopen will be tough. The good news is that the new Crossbow is expected to serve twice as many customers according to the developer. On top of that, Ziggy's will be three times the size of their current location and be open year-round.

The new facility will also offer housing and a rooftop patio. The developer said, 'Every time my wife and I go away to a restaurant out of state, there’s always a rooftop. We just love the rooftop concept.'
