In 2008 the Natural Resources Commission put a ban on baiting deer after a case of Chronic Waste Disease was found in Kent County. Now that the ban is lifted, hunter's will once again be able to use bait piles but there are some restrictions.

Both hunters and retailers that sell deer feed are excited  that baiting is now legal. Hunters will be able to lure deer to their hunting area and local retailers will see an increase in sales. The two gallon bait restriction returns with the lift of the ban and recreational feeding is once again an option as well.

Not everyone is off the hook though, there are still some counties in North Eastern Michigan where baiting is still prohibited due to their on going Tuberculosis problems. The commission will take another look at the issue in 2014.
