These furry friends didn’t ask for the situations they were found in—they’re just looking for someone to love, trust, and depend on. We’ve welcomed two rescue dogs into our home and couldn’t be happier with the joy they bring to our family.

At Cars 108 in Flint, adoption candidates are spotlighted every week with their Tuesday Tails feature, which airs Tuesday mornings at 8:50. Jeremy Fenech is joined by Lin Holmes to talk about a specific pets up for adoption. In 2025, more than 95% of the animals featured on Cars 108 were adopted!

From Flint Firehouse to Burton Shelter: 100 Years of Animal Rescue in Flint

Today, the Humane Society of Genesee County is celebrating 100 years! What started in 1926 with J. Edington Burroughs and friends taking animals into their homes has grown into a full-fledged shelter serving the community for a century.

From its early days out of a firehouse office, now Tenacity Brewery, to its current Burton location on S. Dort Hwy, the shelter has expanded to meet local pets’ needs, including adding a spay and neuter clinic in 2011.

How Genesee County Residents Can Celebrate the 100th Anniversary

To mark this milestone, the public is invited to a special 100th-anniversary open house on January 8, 2026, from 3 to 7 p.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. There will be refreshments, and everyone is welcome to join the celebration.
