Grand Blanc School Board Member Among 16 Charged in Elector Scheme Scandal
A Grand Blanc School Board member is among 16 individuals in Michigan charged in a scandal involving a fake elector scheme rocking the state.
According to a press release, Amy Facchinello was charged by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and 15 other individuals who acted as fake electors for then-President Donald Trump in 2020. The statement notes that,
"These defendants are alleged to have met covertly in the basement of the Michigan Republican Party headquarters on December 14th, and signed their names to multiple certificates stating they were the “duly elected and qualified electors for President and Vice President of the United States of America for the State of Michigan.” These false documents were then transmitted to the United States Senate and National Archives in a coordinated effort to award the state’s electoral votes to the candidate of their choosing, in place of the candidates actually elected by the people of Michigan".
Facchinello, who is 55 and was previously vice chairwoman of the Genesee County Republican Party, is being charged with the following:
Facchinello has been under fire in the past for concerns being raised regarding her support of QAnon which even lead to protests by students in 2021.
According to the AG's office press release, all of those charged are alleged to have met covertly in the basement of the Michigan Republican Party headquarters on December 14th, and signed their names to multiple certificates stating they were the “duly elected and qualified electors for President and Vice President of the United States of America for the State of Michigan.” These false documents were then transmitted to the United States Senate and National Archives in a coordinated effort to award the state’s electoral votes to the candidate of their choosing, in place of the candidates actually elected by the people of Michigan.
The statement from the AG's office goes on to note that each of the defendants including Facchinello, or their attorneys, have been notified of the charges. The court will provide each of the 16 charged with a date to appear before the 54-A District Court in Ingham County for arraignment.
