Grand Blanc Girl Sells Her Own Honey, Raises Money for School – The Good News
Yes, you read that right - she has her own hive.
Elementary school students selling stuff to raise money isn't anything new, but this one is special.
Mackenzie Ball is in 2nd grade at Myers in Grand Blanc. Her uncle is a beekeeper, and she's always been fascinated with what he does. When she was 4-years-old, she got her first bee suit. She's gotten a new one every year for her birthday to grow with her and, when she turned 7, she got her own hive.
Over the summer, she harvested over 80 lbs of honey and sold it to family members for $5 per bottle...and raised over $550. Instead of keeping the money, she decided to give it to the library at her school.
The librarian is going to buy new books with the money and place a bee sticker on each one.
