Gordie Howe Bridge Opening Delayed Again as Officials Hit Pause
After days of rumors about a possible opening this week, officials have finally confirmed that the Gordie Howe International Bridge will not be opening yet.
Why The Gordie Howe Bridge Opening Was Delayed
The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority released a statement Thursday saying Canada and the United States have agreed to delay the opening while remaining issues are resolved according to reporting from MLive.

Interim CEO Chuck Andary said,
Canada and the United States have agreed to delay the opening of the bridge, taking the necessary time to resolve any outstanding issues.
What We Know About The Expected Opening Timeline
The statement comes after reports suggested a ribbon-cutting ceremony could happen Friday and another report claimed traffic would begin crossing Monday, June 15. Neither date was ever officially confirmed.

Officials did not provide a reason for the delay and did not announce a new opening date. Andary continued,
The Gordie Howe International Bridge will be a vital economic link for Canada and the United States. As we work towards an opening date, we are taking a collaborative approach.
Political Issues Continue Surrounding Bridge Launch
The delay comes months after President Donald Trump threatened to prevent the bridge from opening unless Canada agreed to a trade arrangement he believed would benefit the United States. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said this week that Trump's position has not changed.

Construction on the nearly $5 billion bridge began in 2018. The crossing will connect Detroit and Windsor and serve as a major trade route between the two countries.
Toll Prices And Crossing Information For Drivers
Passenger vehicle tolls are set at $5.75 U.S. or $8 Canadian per crossing. A toll-free multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists will also be available when the bridge eventually opens. For now, officials say the bridge is ready, but the wait continues.
