The Genesee Sportsman's Club (8208 N. Seymour Rd., Flushing) will host the 1st annual Thomas Smith Memorial Clay Shoot this Saturday, starting at 9:00 am. Flights are at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, rain or shine. The event also includes a silent auction and door prizes.

The Thomas Smith Memorial Foundation's goal is to make sure middle and high school students have access to free heart screenings, by raising funds to purchase mobile cardiac equipment in order to conduct screening in all area school districts.

Approximately five Michigan families will lose a child this year to Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Organizers Jon and Mary Smith, parents of Thomas Smith who died suddenly last year from an undetected heart condition, hope to help prevent other families from suffering similar losses, through education and early detection.
