Our 13-Year-Old Just Got His First Debit Card

It's called the Greenlight card, and here's how it works.

First of all, let us preface this - nobody is paying us to write about this. We got sucked into the Facebook ad and, now that we have it, we think it's amazing.

Kids spend differently than we did back in the day. I used to get my allowance at the end of the week or babysitting money and I'd go to a movie or go to the mall and spend it.

Nowadays, the majority of spending is done online. We've attempted the chores/allowance "thing" for years now and, every time we give our son some cash, he ends up asking to use our debit card.

Enter the Greenlight Card. You hook it up to your bank account and you, as a parent, can manage your child's money. You can deposit, withdraw and even dictate WHERE they can spend it.

We absolutely LOVE IT so far. You can even dictate their chores and which days they need to do them. And he has the "child" version of the app on his phone, so he can learn to budget his money.
