Who Qualifies for the $600M Flint Water Crisis Payments?
After years of waiting, the question on everyone’s mind is finally being answered: Who’s getting paid, when, and how? The court in charge of the Flint Water Crisis Settlement says the money is officially on its way this fall.

A court-appointed Special Master, Deborah Greenspan, confirmed that approved claimants will begin receiving payments this fall through the Flint Water Payment Portal, which is the only legitimate site for updates or payment instructions.

Claimants who already filed valid claims will soon get official letters explaining how to log in, verify their information, and select how they want to be paid.
Who Will Get Paid — and Who’s Included?
So who qualifies? The settlement covers people who lived, worked, or went to school in Flint during the water crisis, as well as property owners, renters, and businesses that suffered losses. It even includes heirs or estates of those who passed away from related health issues. Most of the money, about 80 percent, is earmarked for those who were children at the time of exposure.
What About Former Residents?
And if you’ve since moved away? You’re not out of luck. Former residents can still qualify if they lived in Flint during the exposure period and can prove it with records like school or medical documents.
Scam Warnings and What to Watch For
The $600-million settlement, years in the making, represents a long-awaited step toward justice for families who’ve endured so much since the crisis began. For anyone waiting on payment, the next step is simple. Just verify only through the official Flint Water Payment Portal, and be ready when your letter arrives. Officials warn residents to watch out for scams: no one from the settlement team will ever call, text, or DM asking for bank details.
