After months of debate, the Flint Township board approved an ordinance limiting panhandling and solicitation within the township.

The ordinance, which goes into effect on March 1st, will make it illegal for groups or individuals to ask drivers for money on public streets. At this time, it's unclear who will grant permission for non-profit organizations (such as the Old Newsboys) to collect charitable donations.

Violators can be be fined up to $500 for disobeying the ordinance.

Do you think the new policy is a good idea? Should other area cities and townships institute similar ordinances?
