Flint cops save baby raccoon

Two Flint police officers responded to an unusual call Tuesday (7/10), rescuing a baby raccoon that had been trapped in a barrel of sludge.

Officers Reed and Hilliker were called when a resident heard unidentifiable screaming noises. When they arrived, they discovered the raccoon fighting for air in the barrel. Officer Hilliker kicked the barrel over, but the raccoon had come close to drowning so it had run nearly out of energy.

The officers, with some help from a neighbor, cleaned the cub with a hose and dried him off with a towel.

Hilliker and Reed contacted a local animal rescue for further care of the animal.
