Genesee County Judge Becomes Hero After Life-Saving CPR Rescue

A Genesee County judge is being recognized as a hero after saving a stranger's life during a trip to New York City. On Tuesday, the American Red Cross presented District Court Judge Herman Marable with a Lifesaving Award for jumping into action during a medical emergency last October.

Judge Herman Marable Jumped Into Action On A New York Sidewalk

Marable was driving around looking for a parking spot when he spotted a man collapsed on the sidewalk. According to ABC 12, the judge pulled over, called 911, and started CPR while following instructions from the emergency dispatcher.

The man, identified as Gia, was a tourist from the country of Georgia. Thanks to Marable's quick actions, he survived.

Tourist Returned To Flint To Thank His Hero

The story has a heartwarming ending. In December, Gia and several friends traveled to Flint to personally thank Marable at his annual holiday party. The judge said:

This means a lot to me. Helping a fellow man or woman is what this is about.

Why The American Red Cross Presented A Lifesaving Award

The American Red Cross Lifesaving Awards have recognized everyday heroes since 1911. Since 2018 alone, more than 3,600 people have been honored for helping save over 1,800 lives.

Marable says he was simply doing what he hopes anyone would do, but thanks to his quick thinking and CPR, one stranger got a second chance at life.
