The incident occurred on October 12th at Brownell STEM Academy. Chrystal McCadden says that she got a call from her son's school on October 12th to come pick him up from after-school program called Youth Quest, which is run by the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce. When she arrived, her son was in handcuffs. When she asked to have them removed, the officer told her that he didn't have the key.

In a statement to WEYI, the Flint Police said, "An officer was dispatched to Brownell STEM Academy in response to an urgent call for immediate assistance with a child who appeared intent on injuring himself, as well as repeatedly assaulting others." McCadden says that her son has ADHD, but is not violent. The Flint PD is investigating, and the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce has released this statement on their Facebook page:
