The Flint Fire Department will hold open houses and give out free smoke detectors as part of fire prevention week.

The open houses will promote fire safety awareness and give information on what to do if someone suspects arson activity. The smoke detectors will be given out to residents who fill out a short checklist. They were provided by a donation from Detroit Red Wings Henrik Zetterberg.

The open houses will be held on Saturday, October 12 from 11 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at all five stations. The Flint Fire Department will also be working with schools throughout the week to educate children about fire safety.

Fire prevention week runs through October 12th. This year's theme is preventing and reacting to kitchen fires.
