Flint has been through a lot over the last 100 years. There was the Great Depression, the sit-down strike, and of course the fallout from the closure of Buick City in the 1990s. This century, we’ve gone through the recession of 2008, the COVID-19 pandemic, and of course the Flint water crisis.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some iconic businesses and organizations that Flint is known for like Big John Steak & Onion, which opened in 1972, and Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, which opened nine years later in 1981.

Even Flint’s epic nightlife from the 1980s through the early 2000s is mostly just a memory now. Back in the day, you could meet up with your friends at Conto’s, Maxie’s, Celebrations, Club Nightengale, and more. Just a handful of those classic stops like Scooter’s and Puzzler’s are still around.
