If you're a fan of scary movies like me, here are some great films that are available to stream on Netflix.

I have no problem admitting this: I love scary movies. I think it's fun to be scared. I feel like it's an accomplishment to sit through a scary movie. So, needless to say, I've seen a lot of horror flicks. Some good ones, and a lot of bad ones.

If you wanna sit down on a Friday night before Halloween and indulge in a good horror movie, here are my personal picks, in no particular order:

1. Dark Skies (2013)

Just watched this one a couple of months ago. I read the reviews, and when I saw the word "aliens," I automatically wrote it off. Take it from me: GIVE IT A CHANCE. You won't be disappointed. As soon as it ended, I was left wanting more. I could've watched another two hours of this story. Science fiction meets supernatural thriller. Loved it.

2. The Babadook (2014)

This is an Australian film that's been highly praised in reviews. Don't rely on it for jump scares, though. There's a fear and an unease that carries through the entire film, and that's why I personally loved it. However, I didn't love the ending. But, to be honest, horror movies are tough to end. You're either left wanting more, or feeling like they tried to wrap up the story too quickly. I still recommend this one.

3. Housebound (2014)

This, in my opinion, is one of the hardest genres to pull off: horror meets comedy. Normally, I would skip it - if I want to be scared, I don't want comedy. But this film from New Zealand was so entertaining, so scary and so funny, I'd watch it again. Family dynamics meets comedy meets haunted house - highly recommend it. Again, the ending is a little wonky, but I still enjoyed it.

4. Event Horizon (1997)

This is another genre that I normally wouldn't be a fan of: horror meets science fiction. It's not a brand new film, either, but it holds up well. At the time that it came out, it wasn't a box-office hit. I remember renting it with my cousin when we were in high school, and to this day, we STILL talk about it and how scary it is. And, unlike my previous two picks, the ending is satisfying.

5. Hush (2016)

This one - you seriously might pee your pants. The suspense is incredible. Pat and I watched this together after reading online reviews and thought it was amazing. Do it.

Happy Halloween! Enjoy!
