Netflix Dropping Support for Older Devices – What MI Viewers Should Know
If you're a Netflix viewer here in Michigan who relies on older streaming gear, you may soon notice the app disappearing from your screen.
Starting March 2, Netflix is expected to end support for its app on a range of legacy hardware, including the PlayStation 3 and some early-generation smart TVs. The move could potentially affect millions of devices still in use across Michigan and the U.S.

The good news: subscribers won’t lose their accounts or access to their shows. But if you're still watching on older equipment, you may need to upgrade or plug in a newer streaming device to keep watching at home.
What Devices Are Losing Netflix Support
Devices Losing Netflix Support
Netflix will no longer support its app on the following older devices:
- PlayStation 3
- First-generation smart TVs (10+ years old)
- Early Roku streaming models
- Older Blu-ray players with built-in streaming
- BT TV Box (Z4)
- BT TV Recordable Box (G4)
- Select outdated cable and satellite streaming boxes
Important: Your Netflix account is not affected — only the ability to stream on these older devices.
When Support Ends: March 2, 2026
According to The Spun, neither Sony nor Netflix has made a formal announcement about the change. However, users on Reddit and X have posted images of an on-screen warning that reads:
“Unfortunately, Netflix will no longer be available on this device after March 2, 2026. Visit netflix.com/compatibledevices to see a list of supported devices. (R40)”
Streaming tech ages fast. If your streaming setup feels like it belongs in a museum, March 2 could be the gentle nudge Michigan viewers didn’t know they needed to upgrade.
