FDA Warns Consumers to Throw Out Honey Smacks Cereal

The Food and Drug Administration ordered Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal to be removed from store shelves in June. The cereal has been linked to a salmonella outbreak in 36 states that has sickened more than 30 people.

The FDA has now tweeted warning consumers to throw the cereal away.

The product was supposed to be removed from all store shelves in June of this year, but it is apparently still being sold in some locations. If you see Honey Smacks on the shelves, the FDA is asking that you report it here.

According to WNEM, symptoms of salmonella usually appear 12 to 72 hours after exposure. Symptoms can include diarrhea, fever, and cramps. Symptoms usually last 4 to 7 days. Most people recover from salmonella without any treatment, but 30 people have been hospitalized with this outbreak. No deaths have been reported with this outbreak.

The moral of the story is take FDA recalls seriously. The food or products that are recalled are only recalled because they can cause sickness or harm. If you have Honey Smacks in your pantry just take the safe route and throw it away.
