Eminem Set to Join These Impressive Detroit Rock Hall of Fame Inductees
On Wednesday, May 4, music fans finally found the names of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2022. Joining a long history of notables will be Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Carly Simon, Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, and Michigan's own Eminem.
With his induction, which will take place November 5 in Los Angels, Eminem will find himself in some pretty talented and elusive company representing Detroit. The Detroit-born rapper will become the 20th Detroit performer to become part of the institution’s 36-year history.
Coming off of an incredible performance at this year's NFL Super Bowl, Eminem, aka Marshall Mathers, made his way into the Rock Hall in his first year of eligibility and is only the second hip-hop solo artist to make the Hall of Fame while alive, following Jay-Z last year.
"It's a happy moment," Denaun Porter told the Detroit News. He has been Eminem's longtime producer, on-stage right-hand man and friend for almost 30 years. "It's a win for the home team."
In order to qualify for induction, an artist must have released their first commercial success 25 years before. Eminem’s first album, Infinite debuted in November 1996, when he was still making his way as a little-known performer in Detroit.
Since those days back in 1996, Eminem has had global sales of over 220 million records, won 15 Grammy Awards, 17 Billboard Music Awards, 2002 Academy Award for Best Original Song for his song "Lose Yourself", and is considered among the best-selling music artists of all time...and he isn't even 50 yet. Pretty impressive, not to mention....thanks to Slim Shady, the world knows all about 8 Mile.
