DTE Customers Without Smart Meters Could See Shut-Offs Soon [VIDEO]
DTE Energy has installed millions of smart meters over the last few years, and now customers refusing to have one installed could have their power shut off.
According to ABC12, one Columbiaville DTE customer received a notice that her power will be turned off on September 18th. DTE is saying the old meter is a hazard to her family and her neighbors.
DTE says the smart meters are more accurate, but because the old meters often under estimated the amount of power households were using, some people have seen their bill increase after the switch. If you are a Consumers Energy customer, you have the option to opt out of the smart meter, but you will see a fee. DTE customers do not have the choice to keep their old meter.
