Normally it's school closings or severe weather updates, but while watching ABC 12 last night I saw a crawl on the bottom of the screen that read:

ATTENTION DIRECTV SUBSCRIBERS! Effective February 10th there is a strong possibility that WJRT will NOT be seen on DIRECTV. In order to guarantee that you receive WJRT, you may need to find an alternate source to view our signal. You can use an over the air antenna, subscribe to another Satellite service or cable system. This is an alert for DIRECTV SUBSCRIBERS only!

Satellite television provider DirecTV will drop Flint's ABC 12 (WJRT-TV) from its channel lineup effective at 5pm today (2/10/2014).  The ABC affiliate, owned by SJL Broadcasting, is urging viewers to contact DirecTV and demand that WJRT remain a viewing option. However viewers commenting on the ABC 12 website say that after contacting DirecTV it is apparent that it is WJRT and DirecTV that need to work out an agreement.

Basically, everyone in Genesee and Lapeer Counties could call DirecTV to protest their decision, but until the two can reach an agreement, WJRT will no longer be retransmitted on DirecTV.  You can contact DirecTV at 1-800-531-5000.

UPDATE:  With just five minutes to spare, ABC 12 announced that a deal was reached with DirecTV.  The satellite service will continue to transmit WJRT-TV to Flint area residents.
