The Tigers beat up on the Seattle Mariners tonight 8-1 after the Yankees beat Cleveland today 4-0.  The win by Detroit, coupled with another Cleveland loss puts the Tigers and Indians in a tie for first place in the American League Central Division.

Max Scherzer got his act together tonight, pitching 7 innings and only giving up one run to pick up his 8th win of the season.  Scherzer had been lousy as of late, giving up 19 runs in his last three starts.  Tonight, he kept the Mariner hitters off balance and got plenty of help from the Tiger bats.

The Tigers put two runs on the board in the first inning.  Brennan Boesch got a two-out single, Miguel Cabrera was hit by a pitch.  Boesch scored on a hit by Victor Martinez and Cabrera came home on a throwing error by Seattle's catcher.  That was enough for the win, but the Tigers kept piling on the hits and runs.  Austin Jackson had 3 hits, including two triples, Boesch and Martinez also had three hits on the night.  Jhonny Peralta blasted his 9th homer of the year in the 6th inning to plate two Tiger runs.

Tomorrow afternoon the Tigers and Mariners wrap up their 4-game series at Comerica Park in Detroit.  Rick Porcello goes for his 7th win against Felix Hernandez.  1:05 first pitch.
