Detroit Grounds Crew Member Gets Hurt, Flips the Bird on Live TV
A Detroit Tigers groundskeeper made an unexpected impression during Wednesday’s game, expressing his displeasure with the situation via a middle finger. After suffering an apparent injury on the field, the staffer was caught on live TV flipping the bird while being tended to by medical personnel.
Injury During Seventh-Inning Stretch
The incident occurred during the seventh-inning stretch Wednesday night (5/28) at Comerica Park, as the San Francisco Giants were in town for a three-game series.
There’s good news—and there’s bad news.
The good news: The Tigers went on to beat the Giants 4–3, sweeping the series and extending their lead in the American League Central Division. The Tigers are currently 37–20 on the season.
The bad news: A member of the Detroit Tigers grounds crew suffered a leg injury during the game.

Live Broadcast Captures Unexpected Gesture
Several news outlets report the man appeared to stumble while raking the infield ahead of the eighth inning, near the Giants' dugout.
An EMS crew was called in, and Tigers assistant athletic trainer Chris McDonald began attending to the injured crew member.

Was it the prospect of being out of the game for weeks, or the fact that he’ll probably be walking on crutches for a while? We may never know. But what we do know is that he was clearly annoyed that TV cameras were capturing the moment from several different angles.
The injured, annoyed crew member flipped off the camera as the Tigers’ TV announcer snorted, “You can’t do that.”
Clearly, you can.
