As part of Global Service Day, a community clean-up event in the neighborhoods of Haskell Youth Center will take place on Saturday.

The work taking place on Saturday focuses on general clean-up and volunteers are needed to help with:

  • Clearing hazardous materials, trash and large brush.
  • Weed whacking overgrown grass from cleared areas.
  • Raking the knocked down heavy weeds and grass so a mower can run and keep the area around fire hydrants and bus stops clear.
  • Taking fallen limbs and branches to the curb. The city will then chip or remove.

The clean-up is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with a volunteer meeting at Salem Housing on Martin Luther King Ave. Volunteer groups will be assigned and areas will be assigned. From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. work will take place and after workers will re-assemble at the Haskell Youth Center located at 2201 Forest Hill Avenue where lunch will be provided.
