Clio Parent Files Lawsuit Against School District for Open-Carry
Kenneth Herman, parent of a student at Edgerton Elementary, is filing suit against the school district after he was denied access to the school more than once because he was open carrying a pistol.
State law prevents people from carrying a concealed weapon on to school property. On the other hand, the law allows people who have a concealed pistol license to open carry on school property.
Is it just me, or is that really confusing and kind of backwards?
This started back in 2013, when Herman picked up his daughter from school with an open carry pistol. Police were called, but no arrest was made. Herman says that he's met with the district about this, and nothing has been remedied. He says that the goal of the lawsuit is to prevent the school from enforcing its gun ban, and to prevent them from banning him from school grounds.
