Care Bears & My Little Pony Among National Toy Hall Of Fame Nominees
Some of your all-time favorite toys have a chance at immortality as inductees for the National Toy Hall of Fame. The Strong National Museum of Play announced the finalists for 2019 yesterday, and the list is filled with nostalgic favorites, and one surprise.
Making the cut this year are Care Bears, the coloring book, Fisher-Price Corn Popper, Jenga, the card game Magic the Gathering, Masters of the Universe ( think He-Man and She-Ra), Matchbox Cars, My Little Pony, the Nerf Blaster, Risk, and the Top. Adding a interesting "sign of the times" twist, the Smartphone earned a place among the finalists because of its status as a platform for countless mobile games and fun interactions.
Last year's honorees were the Magic 8 Ball, pinball and Uno, and this year only two or three of the nominees will join them. Sixty-eight toys currently occupy the National Toy Hall of Fame. For a toy to make it into the hall, they have to be innovative, widely recognized, shown to be more than a passing fad and foster learning, creativity or discovery through play.
You can help your favorite toy secure a spot in history by voting online now through September 18th. Fan favorites will be considered by the deciding panel with the winners will be inducted November 7th.
