Bankruptcy Shuts Down The Party For 4 Michigan Party City Stores
It's not a secret, the retail industry has been fighting for its survival for years. Several stores are closing around Michigan and the US already in 2023. Now the popular celebration supply store, Party City, starts bankruptcy reorganization.

How many stores is Party City closing?
- The company is closing or "auctioning off" 22 stores in six states around the US. The auctioning off stores angle isn't common of most other retailers struggling to reorganize their finances. They believe these locations will allow gyms or other larger retailers to immediately come in, remodel and take over the property.

Which Michigan stores will Party City close?
Three Party City locations will close/be auctioned off. Most closures will happen by the end of February. According to Cision the locations include:
- Party City at Jackson Crossing, 1510 N W Ave, Jackson, MI 49202
- Party City at Fairplan Plaza, 1040 Fairplain Dr, Benton Harbor, MI 49022
- Party City at 4047 24th Ave, Fort Gratiot Twp, MI 48059
- Party City at Felch Street Plaza, 3050 Beeline Rd, Holland, MI 49424
- (Previously closed was a Plymouth, MI location)
While internet sales certainly make an impact on every retailer in all sectors -- even creative partnerships like Party City delivering with Door Dash isn't enough to save them. Often times, the delivery service means higher prices on top of extra fees.
Will other Party City locations close?
Given the environment it's possible. They closed 28 locations in January 2023 before the bankruptcy filing.
