The American Red Cross asks eligible blood donors to give something that means something this winter.

The "Gives Something that Means Something" winter campaign runs through January 6th, 2014. The holidays bring families and friends together in hopeful times to share in celebrations and special times of giving. For families dealing with a cancer diagnosis or other major illness, the holidays can be a difficult time.

“By doing something that didn’t cost a thing, you can give an amazing gift – you can offer hope to a patient in need,” said Todd Kulman, Communications Program Manager of the Great Lakes Blood Services Region. “Historically, during the winter months of November, December and January, fewer donors make the time to give blood due to competing seasonal activities, celebrations and holiday shopping.”

A blood drive is being held today from 11 a.m. until 5:45 p.m. at the Flint Blood Donation Center located at 1401 S. Grand Traverse St.
