Flint Community Schools will be sitting the fall season out across the board this year.

The school district announced they will not be participating in fall sports activities due to the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday. As many districts have just canceled football for the fall season, Flint is canceling all sports for their schools.

In a letter to families, the district states it was not a easy decision to make. “It is a tough decision and one made with great sadness, but it is our responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of the students in our care and take all necessary precautions to help limit the spread of the pandemic", said Director of Athletics Jamie Foster in the statement posted to social media.

He notes that the sports programs within the district are an important part of not only the students lives, but the entire area. "For decades, athletics have been a staple of the community. However, the safety and well-being of our families and community remains our primary concern", he said. The district will still offer student athletes  the option to condition with strict safety measures in place by the district.

Just a few weeks ago, the Michigan High School Athletic Association had announced that there would be no high school football this fall. The MHSAA hopes to reschedule the season for the spring. Currently tennis, soccer, cross country and volleyball are allowed to continue their competition schedule in the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula. As of now, there are no competitions allowed in the rest of Michigan.
