A Pop Up Drive-In Theater Is Coming To Detroit Soon
Going to a drive in movie in January is definitely not a Michigan thing, but that's exactly what's going to happen in Downtown Detroit.
Emagine Theaters and Bedrock Detroit have teamed up to bring a series of drive in movies to the D. The big screen will be located right next to Campus Martius Park in Detroit, and is being called the Monroe Street Drive-In. Right now there are three dates set for movies, and additional movies and dates will be announced weekly.
The schedule for the showings listed by Emagine are below.
- Friday, January 22: Jurassic Park
- Saturday, January 23: Shrek
- Sunday, January 24: Back to the Future
The event will be following all Covid safety guidelines, including mandatory masks if you do leave your car. There will be room for just over 60 cars per movie, and tickets go on sale Monday the 18th. When you are at the movie, you can grab snacks at any of the concessions pavilions, or spend some time in the warming area. There will also be some outside seating, but let's be honest, it's January . . . you're staying in your car.
Tickets are available at the Emagine site here, and will start at $20 per car.
This is just another example of how creative people have gotten during the pandemic. This has been an unbelievably hard year for all of us, but one of the positives has been watching everyone adjust. Adversity has definitely brought out the best in some businesses, as they work to give us all a way to enjoy ourselves.
