9-Year-Old Seattle Boy Petitions For Longer School Lunch and Recess [VIDEO]
Maybe I'm in the minority, but 15 minutes for lunch and 15 for recess? Seems awfully short to me!
Third graders at Whittier Heights Elementary School in Washington are signing a petition, started by a fellow student, to have their lunch and recess times extended.
This comes after the district shortened lunch and recess by five minutes a piece, down from 20 to 16, because the school is behind on "instructional minutes." So Alex Armstrong started a petition, and has over a hundred signatures already! He says that kids are hyper because they don't get enough time for physical activity, and most kids don't even finish their lunches.
Here's the full story from KING 5 in Seattle.
This is just my personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt: 15 minutes for lunch and 15 minutes for recess is nowhere near enough time, especially for children that age. We keep talking about kids eating healthier and getting more exercise, and now THIS? I don't get it. No wonder so many kids have trouble concentrating in school! What do you think?
