7-Year-Old Battling Cancer is Detroit PD ‘Chief for a Day’ – The Good News [VIDEO]
Is somebody cutting onions in here? Because we're getting a little misty-eyed.
7-year-old Rodney Burton III, who is battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma and sickle cell disease, was named honorary police "chief for a day" on Wednesday.
After taking a ride in a police helicopter, he said, "I want to help people and I want the city to be protected."
Police chief James Craig swore him in, surrounded by a SWAT team and state troopers. "This is an opportunity for him to live out a dream," Craig said. "He's certainly a young man who's courageous, a beautiful smile, and I thought 'Who better to exemplify courage than this young man.'" Craig had met Rodney through a family friend, who is a pastor, at the hospital.
Pass the tissues, please.
