Like most tourists in Florida, Gus Hertz was probably just hoping for some relaxing time in the sun. Instead, the Virginia man became a hero after rescuing three people in two separate incidents over a two day period. Well, that puts us to shame. The most we ever managed on vacation is a mean case of sunburn.

As I mentioned yesterday, our family vacation was loaded with fun, but we also dealt with some chaos. On the second morning of our cruise, the ship was scheduled to dock in Nassau at 6:30am.  Due to extremely high winds, the crew was unable to complete this task until closer to 8:30am. As the ship was in the process of docking something went horribly wrong.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.  That was truly the case during my family's recent vacation. It started on Friday, December 30th as we loaded up the car and started to make our way south.  The next ten days provided experiences and memories we will not soon forget.

For the first time in my life, my family and I are taking a vacation where we will be completely unreachable for 5 days.  It will be a nice change of pace to be separated from my cell phone and the internet. Before we isolate ourselves, we have to drive the great I-75 to Florida.  Going through so many big cities, there are bound to be some neat places along the way.

With the holidays passing by, it’s now the perfect time to plan an all-inclusive vacation somewhere tropical before the winter lulls set in. Even just the brochures will make you feel better, but how can you make sure your dream escape doesn’t turn into a nightmare?
