The State Farm Neighborhood Assist program will be awarding a $25,000 grant for community improvement, and Whaley Children's Center needs your help to win. Some of the 42 children that call Whaley Children's Center home attend public school in the area, but that is not a good fit for a lot of the children that live there. When children arrive at Whaley they have most often already been to four or five foster homes, and have abuse or neglect in their past. For these reasons, Whaley has an on-campus school, the LaFontaine Learning Academy. Children that attend classes here are in smaller groups and have more individualized learning plans.

The LaFontaine Learning Academy was built on the Whaley campus in the 1970's and is in need of improvements. If Whaley Children's Center wins the State Farm Neighborhood Assist Program grant, some of the improvements they will make include new floors throughout the school, adding air conditioning in the rec space, and adding a sensory room.

Voting for this grant is open through August 24th, and the winner will be announced in September. You can get additional information and vote here.
