This was a Christmas tradition in my home state of Wisconsin and I think it would be GREAT if more neighborhoods did it.

When I was a kid, we had a family tradition on Christmas Eve - church, and then we'd drive to the Milwaukee suburb of West Allis for Candy Cane Lane.

Candy Cane Lane is a series of four city blocks where ALL of the residents decorate their houses with elaborate displays of Christmas lights, inflatables, etc. You're probably thinking, "that's cool but my neighborhood already does this."

But do they do it for...charity?

It started back in 1984, when a group of neighbors decided to start decorating their houses to benefit the MACC fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer). Donations would be collected by hand from cars that drive through to see the lights, and the trees would all be decorated like candy canes.

Since it started, Candy Cane Lane has raised almost $3 million dollars for the MACC fund.

I thought about this last night as I walked my dog through our neighborhood and admired the beautiful Christmas decorations. Wouldn't it be great to do this in Michigan?!
