As of late, the tradition with Disney to open a new movie on Memorial Day weekend and they will follow through this year with the live-action remake of the Disney classic Aladdin

The Guy Ritchie directed film features Will Smith as The Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, and Naomi Scott as Jasmine. The new take on the old cherished film will feature the music that made you fall in love with Aladdin the first time, once again from original composer Alan Menken. There are also some new twists on the favorites like 'Friend Like Me' and 'A Whole New World.'  Look for new songs to be featured as well including a new song for the beloved Jasmine titled 'Speechless.'

The film is part of a growing trend with Disney, and is their second live-action remake this year following the March release of 'Dumbo.' They’re the first live-action remakes since 'Beauty and the Beast' two years ago and one of two scheduled from Disney this summer, the other being 'The Lion King' in July.

Although the full reviews aren't out yet, we all know that the late Robin Williams' beloved performance in the animated film left mighty big shoes for Smith to fill. However, some early dialog from film critics is encouraging. Entertainment reporter Germain Lussier reviewed saying, "The remake plays to that nostalgia beautifully. It improves on the original in some ways (and) is inferior in others," he wrote. "But as a long-time fan, I truly enjoyed it. It made me feel like a kid again." He also tweeted that he fell into nostalgic tears as soon as the live-action film started being a long time fan of Williams and his original portrayal of Genie.

By Monday, box office reports will give us a good idea of whether or not Disney still has a friend in moviegoers. To top the weekend the big blue genie will need to take out current box office champ John Wick, as well as his Disney teammates in the Marvel Universe... That's a pretty tall order regardless of how many wishes you're granted.
