Yes, you read the title correctly.

A kitten, who was chewed to bits and dyed purple, was brought into a San Jose animal rescue recently. Employees suspect that the kitten was used as a "chew toy," and veterinarian Monica Rudiger told The Dodo, "He can't tell us what happened to him, but I've seen this before. I've seen kittens be used as bait and chew toys for other animals."

The kitten was affectionately named Smurf, and is now receiving medical attention. And the best part? He has made friends (best friends) with a blind cat named Wanda. She was found starving next to a garbage can with a crushed left eye and an infected right one, and she leans on Smurf because of her blindness. She even receives a daily massage from him! The rescue, called the Nine Lives Foundation, are requesting that they be adopted together.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've gotta catch a plane to San Jose to bring my cats home. ;)
