An American tradition is back this weekend.  The New Year's Eve Ball Drop in Times Square has been happening for over a century.

Since its first drop in 1908, the ball has has several makeovers.  The latest, in honor of its 100th anniversary, debuted in 2008.  But when most Americans think about the New Year's Ball Drop, they also think of Dick Clark.

Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve debuted on Sunday, December 31st, 1972.  The show has aired on ABC every year except for the 1999/2000 broadcast, which was canceled due to the all-day ABC News Special, ABC 2000 Today.

The second time Dick Clark was not able to countdown to the new year happened on December 31, 2004.  Regis Philbin covered hosting duties following the stroke suffered by Clark in early December.  Since then, Ryan Seacrest has been the co-host, and Dick Clark's appearances have been limited.

Do you think Dick Clark should retire from the show and turn it over to Ryan Seacrest completely? Check out Dick's Ball Drop from last year below, then leave your thoughts and comments.
